Problems with Comment/Reply Mechanism - Howdy Derek

   Hello,

   Derek recently posted a very interesting comment and this doggone blog has changed the reply mechanism and it is giving me fits. I'm still trying to finish school and have not been able to follow through or cross-check research and such the way I would like lately.

   Anyway, some of the information Derek provided sounds pretty familiar and there was a time when I cross-referenced Census records from several different counties. But I presently do not have the time to recheck my records/research. But I hope Derek gets this post and provides more information and stays in touch. I tried to reply to his comment 8-9 times and it wouldn't go through. I wish they (Blogger/Google) would quit tinkering with stuff, this is very frustrating.

   So, at present this post has to suffice for the reply I am unable to make on my own blog! And thank you for the great comment Derek!

I miss you Aunt Lola

   One of the kindest people I have ever known was my Aunt Lola (Keen) Addy who passed away yesterday. She would have turned 98 y.o. this coming Sunday. I am so glad I visited her not long ago. I loved her as well as my Uncle Cecil and their children Mike and Debbie. I will sure miss my dear Aunt but I am presently at a loss for words.

Henry Keen

   Henry Keen born Neshoba County 03/10/1818 died 1906 (possibly 1904 hard to read and would have to check headstone). Buried in the Keen (Bethel) Cemetery in Neshoba County.

Generation No. 1
Joseph Keen was born 1788 in South Carolina.
Joseph is listed on the 1850 and 1860 Neshoba Co., MS census. He is listed as a farmer from South Carolina. No wife is listed. (The person who originally posted this information was descended from "David Keen" while I am descended from Henry, i.e. David's brother. Although the synopsis of Joseph's children is extremely accurate but the same person made some conjecture about Joseph having possibly been listed in S.C. as married to an Anna Crook. However, Joseph was not married to Anna Crook, I found the marriage records in S.C. and the dates were not a match for "our" Joseph. Our Joseph never mentions his wife and she is hidden from all Census reports as she was one of the Neshoba County Choctaws that refused to provide her name to the U.S. Government for fear of forced removal. Everything else however is very accurate)

3. Mary Ann Keen was born 1827 in Neshobo Co., MS.

4. Louisa Keen was born 1829 in Neshoba Co., MS.

5. Edward Keen was born 1832 in Neshoba Co., MS.

6. Elbert Keen was born 1836 in Neshoba Co., MS.

7. David C Keen was born 1838 in Neshoba Co., MS.

David is on the 1850 , 1860 and 1870 Neshoba County Federal Census. David and family are listed on 1870, David is lasted as a farmer.

David C married Nancy P. Keene . Nancy P was born 1844 in Georgia.

David C Keen and Nancy P Keen had the following children:

1. Pruda A Keen was born 1865 in Neshoba Co., MS.

2. Louisa C Keen was born 1866 in Neshoba Co., MS.

3. Rutha Keen was born 1867 in Neshoba Co., MS.

There is no (e) on the end of Keen. The (e) was added to the childrens names.

Rufus married Carrie Belle Smith on June 7, 1894 in Wesson, Copiah Co.,Mississipi.
Carrie Belle was born 1877 in Wesson, Mississippi. She died 1954 in Wesson,
Mississippi.

Rufus Keen and Carrie Bell Smith had the following children:


1. Ruby Elizabeth Keene was born Oct 28, 1895 in Wesson, Copiah Co.,
MS.

2. Roy Keene was born Dec 4, 1896 in Jackson, Mississippi. He died Dec,

4. Carrie Lee Keene was born 1900 in Wesson, Mississippi. She died
1960 in Wesson, Mississippi.
She is burried in Wesson Cementery in Wesson, MS next to her mother
Carrie Belle Smith Keen. (no e on end of Keene) Carrie Lee never
married. Carrie had a twin sister who died at 2 years of age.


Notes on Rufus Keene:
Rufus was part Irish, part Indian. He was a large man with high
cheek bones, llight auburn hair and a ruddy complexion. He worked in a
barber shop on Capitol Street across from the Illinois Central Railroad
Station in Jackson, Ms. When the Indians came to town, they were brought
to the barber shop for Rufus to translate for them. Rufus was also a boxer.
Ruby Keene McClendon had a large picture of him and after she died the
picture was given to Rufus Keene Broadway and it hangs in his home in
North Carolina.
There is also a story that he was bitten by a snake in the woods and
treated it himself and then crawled for help. He was said to have died of an
infected appendix. He also helped place the golden Eagle on top of the
Mississippi State Capitol building.
